Who are the Codeborne type of people?
Every now and then, Codeborne is looking for new employees. And often these new potential employees wonder “Am I the Codeborne type?” or “What type of people Codeborne is looking for?”
To answer this, we sat down with two of our newest recruits: Igor, who has three years of experience in back-end testing and iOS development, and Robert, who has six years of programming experience. Their stories help illustrate what being the “Codeborne type” really means.
In broad terms, Codeborne is looking for people who want to excel. You don’t have to already be a master programmer—what matters is expertise in something, combined with a strong drive to learn, improve, and achieve excellence in software development.
As said by Toomas Talts, CEO and co-founder of Codeborne:”Foremost, they must be good software engineers! Some may have less experience, but they must be excellent at their level. They need to take their work seriously and put their heart into it. From there, it’s about a willingness to learn and work independently because, generally, people reach this level through their own extra effort.”
Another quality that unites nearly all Codeborners is curiosity and creativity. They’re deeply interested in understanding things in detail and developing themselves along the way.
Robert explains it this way:“My path wasn’t the classic one – straight from high school to university with a clear vision. I needed a pause to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do. I tried all sorts of jobs before realizing that software development was the thing I truly wanted.” His skills, as he describes himself, were average, but his real strength lies in creative, intuitive thinking – the ability to see abstract patterns and think outside the box.

Igor shares a similar passion for self-development:”After military service, a friend invited me to join a company where he was already working. I started as a tester—specifically, a backend tester. To better understand what I was testing, I began to independently study and experiment with backend development. Later, I had the chance to start testing mobile applications, which I liked much more. I liked it so much that I developed a fixed idea—I wanted to become an iOS developer!

As Robert puts it: “The core of software work is the same everywhere – process data, support the business logic. But the way people work together here, that’s different. There’s a shared spirit, a sense that we’re solving this thing together. That gives me energy. I’m not alone in this – and that matters.”
Finally, beyond software, every Codeborner brings their own passions to the table. Sharing these interests with others not only inspires colleagues but also helps create the kind of work environment we all want to be part of. That’s the Codeborne way.
